Global Campaigns update: Response to Post-2015 Report, Global Action Plan Consultation 22 February 2013
Dear members of the NCD Alliance network,
NCD Alliance response to draft report on health in the post-2015 agenda
In advance of the high-level dialogue on health in the post-2015 development agenda in Botswana on 5-6 March, WHO has issued a draft synthesis report. The report is a summary of input from the global thematic consultation to date, making the case for health in post-2015 and proposing options for specific health goals, targets, and indicators in the post-2015 framework.
The NCD Alliance submitted a detailed response to the report. We welcome that NCDs are recognised as a current and future development challenge, and that the “25 by 25” NCD mortality target is referenced as a possible “MDG-like goal” for post-2015. However we believe the report can be improved by strengthening the linkages between NCDs, poverty and development; placing greater emphasis on the life-course approach to health; ensuring the overarching health goal addresses mortality, morbidity and disability; and including health-specific indicators for all dimensions of post-2015, to ensure a multisectoral response to health and NCDs.

Comments on the draft are now closed. A revised version will be posted on the World We Want platform at the end of February and will form the basis for discussion at the High-Level Dialogue in Botswana.
Timeline of Global NCD Action Plan 2013-2020 consultations, NGO pre-meeting
On 11 February, WHO released a revised draft of the Global NCD Action Plan (GAP) 2013-2020. This version will be discussed at a series of informal dialogues and consultations at WHO in March:
Wednesday 6 March for relevant NGOs
Thursday 7 March for private sector entities
Monday-Tuesday 11-12 March for member states
The draft is also open for public comment via a WHO online consultation until 10 March. Click here for more information on the consultation process.
The NCD Alliance, together with many of our NGO partners, is developing a detailed submission on the GAP to inform our engagement in the consultation process. We will circulate this to you shortly. To read our previous responses, please click here.
